Tiniest French poincon, silver punch marks are on these small pieces, tools, that fill the vest-pocket "necessaire" or traveler's vanity set, but our photographer neglected to capture them well enough to show on the photos. We'll try again and replace a photo once we have them. They note that the etui and implements are a mix of .800/1000 pure silver and .950/1000 pure silver, both standards of French silver tightly controlled by the marking system they use. The set comes to us from c.1780-1818, not later. It retains most if not all of the original bits taken into the military field, or just traveling by horse or carriage in that era, and designed to hold the items a gentile traveler would need for basic hygiene and perhaps even eating. The folding scissors are just wonderful, rare to find. The small spoon is for medicine, primarily, and is sterling silver. There is a combination ear wax spoon and pick, and also a bodkin (string-threading needle) and a spatule, sort of a knife-like blade that can be used for eating. It would likely have had a handle in the set that has gone missing over time. Still, rare to find sets this complete. And this one is just beautiful.
Very good condition for age and type. Our photos are meant to show you every aspect of our offerings. Please review them all. The scissors is the rare folding type, as you can see, and are in remarkably good condition. The other implements are all in silver. Case is also silver, all have markings varying from .800/1000 to .950/1000 silver (tiny punch marks, hard to capture in photos). Nicely engraved, the etui itself opens and closes perfectly. Tiny ding here or there, a few surface abrasions. Not much to show for nearly 250 years, however. Superb set! Measurements noted on the photos.
Our photos are large and clear. We do expect our customers to review them all, evaluate the item based on both our description and our images. Thanks for all the compliments - we love what we do! Antiques & Uncommon Treasure - all the best, all the time!
