Fabulous antique English 12 5/8" wide vanity or boudoir mirror with ornate rococo style Henry Mathews hallmarked sterling silver framing, original shaped & thick beveled mirror and wonderful visual & decorative appeal! This style of sterling silver overlay has been popular for over a century now, pieces ranging from late 1800s right up to today and they're as elegant as can be. We're adding quite a few this week, mirrors and picture frames with velvet over wood frames, lovely repousse or bas relief sterling silver overlays and, as with this one, thick beveled mirrors. This the oldest of the bunch, the hallmarks date it to 1902 and the silversmith marks are for Henry Mathews of Birmingham, England. The velvet quite aged on this one but, as you can see, the silver is stunning and I simply love the shape, both of the frame and that gorgeous original beveled mirror!
Good condition, age considered. As noted, the velvet covering is quite aged, loss of nap and a few small holes/tears on the back. The original wood easel stand is intact but the ribbon has been reattached underneath it. Some tiny marks to the mirror's silvering but no chips or cracks. See pictures for all measurements.
