Gorgeous antique American Brilliant cut crystal & sterling silver 4" tall "paperweight" style inkwell, rococo floral repousse with interlaced monogram & exquisite, extensively wheel cut crystal body! WOW, what a beauty! Thick & heavy crystal, the piece has a total weight of just over 3 lbs and is in superb condition! Truly stunning, the extent of the cut design in the crystal is amazing and shimmers like diamonds. Louis XVI or rococo style lattice, scrolls an flowers around the large silver top, also beautiful. The back of the lid/hinge is marked "Sterling 168" alongside the silversmith marks of Reed & Barton. Reed & Barton was/is a prominent American silversmith manufacturer based in the city of Taunton, Massachusetts, operating between 1824 and 2015. Its products include sterling silver and silverplate flatware. The company produced many varieties of britannia and silver products since Henry G. Reed and Charles E. Barton took over the failing works of Isaac Babbitt in Taunton. During the American Civil War, Reed & Barton produced a considerable quantity of weapons for Union Army soldiers and officers. In 1928, Reed & Barton merged with silversmith Dominick & Haff. Reed & Barton was chosen to design and produce the official gold, silver, and bronze medals for the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, of which there are samples on display at the Old Colony History Museum in Taunton. The company's products are used at the White House in Washington, D.C.. A long lauded and reputable history.

Very good to excellent condition. There is one or two tiny nips to the base of the crystal body, no cracks or other damage. As you can see in the third & fourth images, there is a bit of dimpling to the bulbous sterling top, just to the right of the monogram. Some light scuffing to the bottom possible but, it's superb, as you can see in the images. See pictures for all measurements.
