Fabulous antique damascene 14k gold on steel 3.75" wide hair comb with Neo-Renaissance style gold overlay, original horn comb and wonderful condition! A true piece of jewelry for your hair, these old Damascene pieces seem to sell as quickly as we can find them and this will likely be no different in that respect. Wonderful condition, undeniable visual appeal and Mizar tested as at least 14k yellow gold. Don't miss it!
Damascening is the art of inlaying different metals into one another—typically, gold or silver into a darkly oxidized steel background—to produce intricate patterns similar to niello. The English term comes from a perceived resemblance to the rich tapestry patterns of damask silk. Truly remarkable, both the process and end result as you can see here. Works of art all! And yes, we tested it and it is guaranteed at least 14k gold :).
Very good to excellent condition. There is no loss or damage to any of the 14k gold overlays and just a hint of age to the steel beneath. No breaks or damage to the horn comb itself. See pictures for measurements.
