A rare find, an old hand carved wood double inkwell stand, electric blue pressed glass original wells still in place (missing their carved wood caps, however) and the very unique form of a wine little owl as its subject. Not only a symbol of wisdom, but also of fidelity (owls mate for life), this little darling has big glass owl eyes and a lovely post atop that interesting stump. Just delightful, in spite of the loss to his pointy feather "ears". Alas, a small loss to the ages, and typical one. The base on this fabulous little 19th century carved desk stand also has the inclusion of a stamp drawer, which is quite unusual to find. That dates it latest 1800s. Two roots or branches of the old stump form a pen holder. Just a wonderful desktop treasure, isn't it!
Very good condition for age and type, he misses the very tips of his feather "ears", noted by "x" on our photo for your close-up examination. One could certainly have those restored but we'll leave the decision to our buyer. The other imperfection is the missing caps for the 2 original and wonderful electric blue pressed glass inkwell.s No doubt would have been stump tops, or perhaps woodland flora, but they're lost to the ages now. The little drawer for stamps (sectioned in 3 compartments, one perhaps for pen nibs or sealing wax, as well) is without any warp, opens smoothly and well. The whole is raised on 4 bun feet, and is 9" long, 3.75" front to back, and stands 6" tall. Serpentine form, just charming as can be, isn't it!
