Delightful antique Victorian to early Edwardian era Black Forest hand carved 7 3/8" wide smoker's stand, a fruit-filled Barrel for cigarettes or pipe tobacco, charming little gnome figure with match holder pack and striker on the front base! Wonderful! I love these old Black Forest pieces with two-toned finishes, this one with a darker base & barrel but the hooded gnome figure and fruit in the top of the barrel have a lighter finish and contrast wonderfully. Fine detail to the carving, the figure is superb with his long flowing beard and pack carved to look like a woven basket. Perfect for the tobacciana collectors or, no need to use it for tobacco of course. Fill the barrel with candies and display on the desk or writing table. Use it as a centerpiece with matches for the candlesticks. Charming!
Very good condition. The only real flaw or restoration that I can see is that the match striker surface has been replaced, an adhesive with course sand. Possibly a tiny chip or two but, as you can see, it's in wonderful shape. See pictures for measurements.
