Wonderful & rare antique Victorian or Napoleon I to Napoleon III era Dutch hallmarked sterling silver, cut crystal & shaped ebonized wood 8" inkwell or inkstand with sander and center nib or brush dish, lovely little bird figural topped lids and wonderful visual appeal! With all of the appearances of a double inkwell stand, it's actually a single inkwell with the other side a removable sander as was more often found in the pieces dating to the 18th to early 19th century pieces. The center raised cut crystal dish would more than likely have held an old boar bristle brush used to wipe date ink from the pen nib or simply to hold extra nibs themselves. Gorgeous thick, wheel cut crystal bodies on both the inkwell and sander, both in pristine condition! The tiny sword shaped hallmark is Dutch and dates between 1814-1905, yes quite an expanse but the inclusion of the sander would lead me to believe it falls toward the former of those dates. Simply a marvelous piece no matter, don't miss it!
Excellent condition. I don't even see a nip to the rim of the center dish! Possibly a tiny nip or two to the inkwells (though I don't see any) but nothing notable. See pictures for all measurements.
