Absolutely gorgeous & rare complete 14pc antique French PUIFORCAT hallmarked sterling silver serving implement or utensil set, all with an elegant Louis Philippe style pattern AND in the original opulent burled amboyna & brass storage and/or presentation box! WOW, both the array of serving pieces and box are stunning and we actually have a matching set of flatware in case you've been looking. It's listed separately though we'd though of just grouping all of the pieces together, just search our shop for "Puiforcat" and you'll see them (it's a 48pc set including a 4pc place setting in dinner and luncheon or entremet sized forks & spoons. Add some knives and you're set!
PUIFORCAT, the pinnacle of French silver really and among a handful of names that are recognizable the world over. A long, lauded history of only the finest of the fine and silversmiths to royalty over the years. Now owned by Hermes of Paris, a name & reputation that also needs no explanation.
This set includes meat carving knife & fork, salad serving fork & spoon, 4pc condiment or hors d'oeuvres set and the rare inclusion of a beautiful pelle a tarte and a 5pc salt or caviar spoons set! Hallmarked sterling silver handles, the French Minerve or Minerva on each, the tiny number "1" mark within designates them as being .950 silver content (95% pure, higher than the .925 standard for sterling silver). This set is in the Louis Philippe style, c.1838, though we do not know a pattern number or name. The silversmith marks on all are "EP" for the House of PUIFORCAT (Emile Puiforcat). Celluloid tines & bowl on the salad serving pair, original steel tines & blade on the meat serving pieces. All original and all in wonderful shape, gorgeous! AND there's no overlooking that exquisite box, something you might expect from a more prominent French ebeniste like Tahan or Vervelle though there are no markings. Richly burled amboyna veneers with brass inlays, corners and a beautiful reticulated brass cartouche! It even has a working lock & key. Stunning all the way around, don't miss them!
Very good condition. A slight dimple possible to the silver handles, some tarnish and/or corrosion to the steel (pre-stainless steel). There is a bit of age discoloration on the salad pieces. The box is original, all pieces fit and the box itself is in great shape with just a very slight upward warp to the front right of the lid (though it does close and lock just fine). See pictures for all weights and measurements.
