Exceptionally beautiful, this 2-tone art glass liqueur service is also hand painted in kiln-fired enamel florals on each piece. The cups are larger than most and the elongated elegant decanter and its extended stopper also elevate the set visually and aesthetically, as well as in measurements. The decanter with its stopper is a full 12" tall. These are not the tiny usual French cups, either, and each one is a fabulous work of glassblower's art. The set is very likely art glass by either St. Louis or Baccarat. Even though the color combo is typical of a maker we also deal in, Georges Sand, I think the much higher quality on this set would move it out of that maker's goods. In comparison in person, it is far above the more usual quality of Georges Sand art glass. These sets were popular and crafted in this style in the Napoleon III era or before, so dates mid-1800s (c.1850-70s). The traditional French digestif or aperitif or small serving of liqueur that precedes a meal and ends it, aiding both the taste buds and the digestion of the meal. All well-appointed homes would have several of these elegant sets to use for their guests. This one is particularly fine.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type. The set is complete as you see it, with all 6 original cups, the tray and the decanter. Each item is artisan made, mouth-blown and hand decorated. You can see in our photos, the set is remarkably fine and unscathed for its age. The very tip of the upright stopper has been chipped or perhaps even broken off at some time, but it isn't a noticeable issue and I'm sure could be very easily smoothed by our glass man we use, but it will take time to get that work done and perhaps you have one locally you trust. Most won't even notice it, but we will point your attention to it and note that it has been figured into the price of our set. The cups are over 3" tall, extra large for this type of service. No chips to report on that original tray, either. A splendid set! Delicate florals. This one is more like a jewel than a liqueur set and your guests will swoon at its beauty. Don't miss this one.
