Superb c.1780s French Snuff or Patch Box, Vernis Martin & 18k Gold, Pristine
Simple perfection - of design, of execution, of preservation. This is one of the finest little snuff or patch boxes we've seen outside a museum. The quality is evident throughout, the hinge is 18k gold (acid tested, confirmed), and the box has no warp, no chips nor cracks, no hairlines or damage to note. It is from the era of Marie-Antoinette and King Louis XVI, and has come to us in the acquisition of a large collection of spectacular 18th century patch and snuff boxes from one of the top estate collections (anonymous, sorry).
Excellent condition throughout. I find not a single nip nor bite, no chip nor cracks. The carefully crafted vernis martin layering that creates the stripes is in remarkably fine condition. Has lain unused, treasured these 2.5 centuries, waiting to be yours. Measurements noted on photos.
Our photos are large and clear. We do expect our customers to review them all, evaluate the item based on both our description and our images. Thanks for all the compliments - we love what we do! Antiques & Uncommon Treasure - all the best, all the time!
