A lovely old 19th century enameled bonbon box or patch box, which for all the world looks like the old and very rare Bilston animals boxes, but I think this one is a later copy by Samson, 19th century still and always fine quality, but comes with a considerably lower price tag. The boxes are always charming, animal heads or entire bodies worked into the old form of the box, hand painted enamels for that porcelain-like surface and whimsical enough to appeal to all. Measurements are noted on the photos. We have one real Bilston animal box with a skunk on it, if you're looking for the real ones, and it's offered separately.
Very good to excellent condition, as charming as the old Bilston, but we think it's Samson, considered a very fine 19th century copy of the older Bilston bonbon or patch box. No chips, no hairlines, no cracks. Slight surface abrasion consistent with age and type. Not much at all. Isn't it sweet!
Our photos are large and clear. We do expect our customers to review them all, evaluate the item based on both our description and our images. Thanks for all the compliments - we love what we do! Antiques & Uncommon Treasure - all the best, all the time!
