An exceptionally appealing miniature portrait of a young beauty in the most elaborate gown and hat of her time, which would have been c.1810-1830. A study in fashion, her tight Empire waist gown is that of a modest Englishwoman, narrow of waist and with mutton leg sleeves, lace collar, height of fashion in her time. The hat is the most fun of all, though, isn't it. Attention to jewelry, fashion, the elegant jewelry and still captures the sultry beauty of her green-grey eyes and her full-on gaze. I wonder if she might have had this as her wedding portrait, painted for her husband. The painting is in gouache or perhaps water color, done on thick card, and beautifully framed in the period frame that is original to it. A heavy dore bronze mat encircles her visage and accents her well within the black outer frame's embrace. Measurements noted on the photos, but this is a larger than normal portrait with 4" x 3 3/8" oval aperture set in a frame that is 8" x 6.5" and .5" in thickness overall, made of wood. All in very fine form.
Very good to excellent condition throughout. No flaws to note and just the hint of age to the surface of the old frame, a fine cover glass in place. It's been opened at some point from back and the glass is pristine clean and resealed from back to stay that way for another 200 years. Isn't she fabulous!
