A new acquisition, this raised tazza is a rare Old Paris (likely Sevres, though unsigned) porcelain plate on raised porcelain pedestal that is also elaborately hand painted. The piece is a very near match to a set of 4 plates we have offered for sale separately, but which you can see pictured with it in that final photo. A stunning glimpse of what your own table or cabinet will look like with the several pieces. But we have just this one single dessert tazza or centerpiece, and have never seen another outside of museums (a set in green borders just like this one is on display in the Apsley House, Wellington Museum, in London which does have 2 of the raised tazza like this one, by the way). Ours is prettier. I love this Sevres or "Celeste" blue. The upper plate is 9.5" in diameter. All measurements will appear on our photos, too.
Very good to excellent, without any chips nor hairline or cracks. I see a couple of light utensil marks on the center of the upper plate, and we've tried to show those clearly. The plate would date, according to Apsley House curators, to c.1830-40s and they attribute their set to the Royal Manufactory du Sevres. I have no mark on bottom to be certain of it, so I can't put Sevres in our title, and must go with Old Paris porcelain, instead. But I'm sure they are the same. Yes, it's true that many of the Sevres decorators and artists expatriated during the Revolution and brought this same very French style of decoration to several UK porcelain manufacturers. We have had similarly decorated plates through the years that were more likely from Derby, Minton, Coalport. Lovely old raised gold enamel work is entirely done by hand, as of course is all the decorative painting on the plate. An exceptional item. Your display cabinet or mine - sublime!
Do look for the 4 plates which are sold in a set of 4, separately.
Our photos are large and clear. We do expect our customers to review them all, evaluate the item based on both our description and our images. Thanks for all the compliments - we love what we do! Antiques & Uncommon Treasure - all the best, all the time!
