From the Napoleon III era, c. 1850-70, this fabulous 12" x 9" frame would have originally housed portrait miniatures, most likely, but it's now ready for your favorite family portraits, instead. There are 5 apertures, each with brass mat and glass intact, ready to show. The easel back is still intact and also there is a hanging loop so you could certainly have it as a wall framed display piece. The burled wood is so beautiful on this unique frame. The 4 corners are decorated by rounds of inlaid mother of pearl. RARE to find these fine old French frames, and we have a nice collection and selection of them right now. I use these in my own home, so don't hesitate if you like this one. Once I find photos to fit it, it just might have a permanent place in my house.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type. All 5 apertures have the glass still in place, no chips or breaks. Each still has the ornate more bronze mat or trim/rim, too, and further decorative rounds of mother of pearl are all set off so opulently by the simple beauty of the burled wood surface, which has a satin polish to it. Gorgeous!
