Here we have a gorgeous set of twelve antique French sterling silver & mother of pearl 8" entremet, luncheon or dessert sized knife set, a stunning array with inlaid monogram medallions, sterling blades and elegant brass inlaid rosewood storage and/or presentation box! The French Mercure or Mercury hallmark on the blades, this designates them as being items made for export from France and in .950 silver (95% pure and higher than the .925 standard for "sterling" silver). I'm sure there are silversmith marks somewhere there but our photographer didn't find a clean enough shot of them. We're sure this set dates to mid-late 1800s, the brass inlaid rosewood box also of the same period but we can't be certain if it's original to the knives. A gorgeous set no matter. One of my favorites where knives are concerned...the heavy solid mother of pearl handles really give the pieces that added feel in the hand and attractive visual appeal. A set you'll love to own, get out & use and, of course, impress!
Very good-excellent condition. There are a few surface marks to the sterling silver blades, indicative of light to normal use. The box is also in great shape but, as noted above, may not be original to the knives. See pictures for weights and measurements.
