We always search for the best for our loyal customers and this one is right up there. A superb early Victorian era Asian "Chinoise" papier mache-like lightweight wooden chest in that wonderful fluted form, entirely hand decorated, painted, and with all 4 original dragon feet in place. Interior has many of the original sewing items, compartment lids, etc., and it displays beautifully either open or closed. The inner tray lifts out to reveal a generous area below for embroidery or sewing projects, patterns, etc., that would have been handiwork for its original owner. The form you see on this one is spectacular, and it's very nicely preserved on all sides compared to most. Measurements are noted on the photos, but it is 12.5" widest and 8.5" deepest front to back, and it is 4.75" tall when closed. In the final photo it's shown on my box table so you can get an idea of size.

Very good to excellent condition for age and type. The hand painted exterior is exquisitely crafted, and has very little disruption - not enough to even distract from its beauty, but look our all-views photos over carefully to see a few very small surface imperfections. Likewise, all 4 original gilded and hand painted dragon feet are in place, very small imperfection or two if you look very closely. There is a hairline on the interior of the box lid, doesn't show at all on the outer box. Might just be the layer of heavy lacquer on the old wood? Interior has its compartment covers and trays, some of the old bits to include a waxer and a measuring tape, most of a spool and the yarn or threads bar-spool. Lift out tray is sturdy, as are hinges. There is a lock that would appear to be working but at listing time I do not have a key to fit it. We'll check out stash and if one is found, we'll annotate the listing and up price a bit.

Our photos are large and clear. We do expect our customers to review them all, evaluate the item based on both our description and our images. Thanks for all the compliments - we love what we do! Antiques & Uncommon Treasure - all the best, all the time.
