A spectacular anatomical study, this late 1800s hand carved and life-sized Chamois goat with carved wood horns is mounted on a plaque that really sets him off beautifully. And not a single loss or flaw on this one. The top of his head is hollowed out as a vase, likely would have been for rolled papers (spills) to light a fireplace or transfer fire from there to candles. We've had a dog carved this same way, the next owner said she would put a fern in there. One can certainly use it as a vase, or a holder for cigars, as well. That opening would easily store a dozen or more huge cigars. Just depends on how you wish to use it. Empty, you don't really notice it's a carved out holder at all, either. All measurements are noted on the photos.
Very good to excellent condition, not a single chip or split, no damage I can note. It's clean and had a light protective oil/wax we like to use to protect the old wood ahead of our buyers receiving the Black Forest item. It's the old original finish, solid old hardwood. Plaque is 15.5" tall plus the hanging hardware at top, and is 8.5" widest. The chamois had extends 6.5" deep from wall. Perhaps slightly under life-size but close. Large and impressive hanging. Perhaps with mounted old Black Forest plaques with chamois horns or stag antlers flanking it - it would be superb!
Our photos are large and clear. We do expect our customers to review them all, evaluate the item based on both our description and our images. Thanks for all the compliments - we love what we do! Antiques & Uncommon Treasure - all the best, all the time.
