Exceptional antique French Napoleon III era 12 5/8" jewelry, vanity or sewing chest, box, elegant kingwood veneers with ornate gilt ormolu accenting, including figural corner appliqués and wonderful condition! No markings on this one but I would definitely not be surprised if it was the work of Tahan, Vervelle or other master French ebaniste. Magnificent in every respect and I simply can't believe the wonderful condition, this one has truly been treasured. I'm actually thinking about adding this one to my personal collection so hurry up before I do!
Very good condition! The only real flaw that I can see with the box is that it appears to have a replacement escutcheon. Working lock with ornate key, near pristine inside and out. The interior has the original tan moire silk lining, entirely intact but with a bit of fraying at the box edges and some age darkening and missing some of the braided piping. There are also chips to the dark ebonized inside rim veneers at the front corners, box and lid. HEAVY, the box weighs an impressive 5 lbs, 4 oz. (2.4kg)! See images for all measurements.
