A wonderful Paris Expo souvenir, a remnant of the famed Grand Tour era, this little scent caddy would have been a special memento to remind a traveler of their visit to the City of Lights. Miniature paintings protected under glass (or painted on the back of the glass - eglomise) surmount the hinged caps of the two interior crystal perfume bottles, and one is of Notre Dame, the great symbol of Paris. The other painting is of a scene from the Expo grounds of the 1889 Paris Expo., adding another charming bit of the traveler's experience. Measurements are noted on the photos.
Very good condition for age and type. The outer casket is leather with brass frame and decorative studding, and remains in very good condition overall, considering age and type. The leather handle is intact, though you can see some deterioration to the leather surface. Still, displays very nicely. I did not polish it at all, preferring not to take any chance of damage to the old leather. The interior lining is the old original and also shows age but remains intact and lovely. The scent bottles are each in excellent condition, but one has a broken off stopper stuck, and still has old perfume inside. It takes a glass worker to unstopper these old ones, though Rick has often done it) we'll pass it along as it is and let you decide what to do with it. I love the faint aroma of the perfume and would hate to lose that so leaving it as you see it. Amazing, it still smells fabulous. The other bottle and its stopper are each in fine form. There is, lastly, a small bit of peripheral haze from moisture over the century and a half, showing around the exterior of the painting of Notre Dame. No dents or breaks or bends to the ormolu caps, and hinges are fully intact and working smoothly. A lovely old treasure.
