Fabulous 1800s hand carved and near-life sized chamois goat head mounted into a big and impressive corner shelf. A perfect item to corner your room, hold a clock, hold folded towels in your Master bath at the cabin or in your French Country home decor - you'll find the perfect spot to show this one off. He is so life-like, and the glass eyes certainly add to that feature. A fine Animalier era sculpture, and the.oak leaves and acorns & branches that create the backing side supports are just fabulous, too. Hunting trophy up top? That would be a great idea on this one, as well. If only I had a corner for him, he'd certainly stay with me. Don't underestimate his size and impressive presence. 16" tall, and the top is a generous quarter-round that measures 16" across and is 14" deep out from the wall when hung
Very good to excellent condition throughout. Thoroughly cleaned and lightly waxed to protect the old wood, no odors. No breaks on either horn, but there's a rather odd elongated chip along the edge of one of his ears. Not the top chipped off as is more usual, but a long thin chip at the rim of the ear so that you could certainly Dremmel it smooth and not even notice it with a bit of stain. But we'll leave him with that little imperfection. Perhaps you won't eve notice it, so grand is the anatomical study on this one. There is one leaf that has 2 bless chipped on the right, and one on the left, as well. You can review in our images. No missing acorns, and for one of these old ones, he's just fabulous in spite of the small imperfection. You'll see that one slender ship visible in the photo with 5 smaller views and the measurements noted below. Beautiful carving! Beautiful animal.

If you've followed us for a while you know I'm a big fan of the old hand carved "Black Forest" items that come to us from 19th century Switzerland, Germany, parts of France and Italy, where they pleased the Grand Tour tourists and still please us all today. These hand carved treasures range from whimsical small bears to large and elaborate mantel clocks, wall clocks, wall plaques showing the most awesome anatomical studies of stag, fowl, "fruits of the hunt". I've got more to list so look through the vast collection. I've just used quite a few piece in our own 2nd home decoration , Rocky Mountains location, and love the look as well as the heritage since my own ancestors hail from that region and others. The pieces work well in Country Manor, French Country, Ski Lodge or Hunt Lodge and even in a den or office. Everything from a pocket watch case to huge plaques - from needle and thread holders to cigar caddy - these decorative objects survive today a testament to the artisan's craft of carving wood.
