Fine LARGE 15" wide antique Victorian to Edwardian era oak smoker's cabinet or chest with fitted interior to hold tobacco pipes in the doors, two drawers for the necessary accoutrements, center space for tobacco jar and spaces in the top for two mixing jars or dishes! Isn't this one fabulous! Large and heavy, in solid old growth European oak and the piece weighs 9.5 lbs (4.3 kg)! A lovely aged patina or finish to the oak, nothing overly frilly...just a wonderful old smoker's compendium. Working lock & key but the doors are just a bit separated there so the lock doesn't reach the plate on the left door so won't lock securely at the moment. An easy fix if the brass plate was moved slightly inward or replaced with a bit wider plate. The doors open to a fitted interior consisting fitting son the doors themselves to hold three pipes each. The lid also opens upward to fully expose the interior, including a space in the upper center for tobacco jar and fittings in the top that would hold two mixing jars surely. Two drawers for all of the necessary stuff, great to hold cigars, matches, etc. One of two fabulous old Victorian to Edwardian era oak smoker's chests that we're adding this week so be sure to browse some while you're with us. Thanks!
Very good to excellent condition. As noted, the lock and key work but the small space between the doors when closed won't allow the lock to engage. I'll take a look at it before sending out to see if I can fix that for the new owner. The pipes and jar in the images are just to show how the piece would work and are not included. It does not have a tobacco jar and is missing the two top mixing glass dishes. Possibly a small nip or two but basically in great shape! See pictures for all measurements.
