A personal favorite and from my own collection, this Victorian mourning broach is entirely hand crafted in 14k - 15k yellow gold, (I do not have acid for 15k which I believe it might be, but it test solidly at 14k). Kiln-fired enamel work in black and accented in beads of jet, along with drops/dangles of jet, as well. A 2-sided locket centers it and is still in fine form, currently houses a small hand painted miniature of Psyche and Cupid that is slightly too small for the aperture, but is lovely with it and as I found it so it will stay. You might wish to use the locket for your own memento or photo, lock of a loved one's hair. It would have been, as noted, a mourning icon or sentimental jewelry item in its time. The hinged locket opens to reveal a thick and beveled original glass in the front panel and as well in the back, no chips or cracks on either. A barrel-hinged long 14k bold Victorian era pin and c-clamp. And again, the little painting is hand painted - a work of antique art and valuable on its own.
Very good to excellent condition throughout. As noted, both original cover glass panels are intact and in place, beveled and thicker than most. The gold is bespoke, one of a kind and is beautifully enameled in kiln-fired black enamel for mourning. All beads are jet, perfect and original mountings. Exquisite beauty! We did not weigh it because the glass panels and jet beads would give it a deceivingly heavy weight you might think is all gold. The brooch is long at 2.5" and other measurements are noted on the photos. The box shown does not fit this item and is only in the photos for ambiance. It is not included. We will box the brooch for gift-giving, however.
Our photos are large and clear. We do expect our customers to review them all, evaluate the item based on both our description and our images. Thanks for all the compliments - we love what we do! Antiques & Uncommon Treasure - all the best, all the time!
