Everyone loves these old boats! I'm the same. I can't get enough of them. They're 19th century souvenirs, hand made with pieces of natural shell, very high pearlescent shimmer mother of pearl half-shells form the hull and the plinth upon which it stands. Larger shells are cut in shapes approximating sails and the entire piece is pulled together with various thicknesses of brass wiring, forming mast, finer twisted wire forms the rigging, etc. This one has the added pleasure of being an inkwell and pocket watch holder and is complete with its own little compass. Wonderful little Grand Tour souvenir from someone's visit to St. Malo's beaches, west of Paris on the Atlantic coastline. Collect several for display. We have several sizes in inventory just now, sold separately.
Very good to excellent condition, even down to the inkwell, which is without a chip or crack The little compass works, and there are not any chips or breaks to any of the mother of pearl sections. No missing rigging wires, and really very nice overall. High pearlescent shimmer and coloration to all pieces. Measurements noted on the photos.
Our photos are large and clear. We do expect our customers to review them all, evaluate the item based on both our description and our images. Thanks for all the compliments - we love what we do! Antiques & Uncommon Treasure - all the best, all the time!
