While the original etui for this elegant set has some damage, it remains the original and the interior is superb, so it will display very nicely left open. The 4 sewing items so perfectly preserved within are each in finest 18k French gold. The small ram's head in oval is the mark we find and it is the French guarantee used between 1819-1838 on small items made of solid 18k gold like these. So that helps us date the set, as well. Napoleon was not long dispatched before this lovely old set was created (putting it into historical reference for you). The set seems to me to have not even been used. It's outer case is damaged, obviously had been dropped at some point or roughly handled. But the pique work on the case is also 18k gold, so it remains quite valuable in tandem with the contents it holds. There would have been a gold bodkin, or ribbon-stringing needle. That item is not still with the set, though you can see the fitting for it. Those are small and easily lost, quite often the sets are found without that needle. Those pieces that remain are truly excellent for age and type.

Very good to excellent for age and type, the outer case ha damage we've shown and noted in our photos. However, it is inlaid with 18k gold pique work that is so pretty, it still retains value. As well, the interior is excellent and so are the 4 sewing items. Each has the mark which France used to guarantee 18k solid gold items of small size, created in Paris between 1819-1838. After that time we look for a profile of an eagle's head to give us the same guarantee. This is a very old and very fabulous set - nearly 200 years old. Scissors remain very sharp. There are no dents nor damage to any of the gold. Steel has a little darkening of age (scissors blades and stiletto). Interior silk velvet lining is excellent, as well. Measurements noted on the photos.

Our photos are large and clear. We do expect our customers to review them all, evaluate the item based on both our description and our images. Thanks for all the compliments - we love what we do! Antiques & Uncommon Treasure - all the best, all the time!
