Such an interesting little thing, this was probably an adjustable spring-wired bracelet for a baby, but when it's coiled as it shows, it can also be worn as a ring. I'm quite certain it would have been a baby's bracelet, however, since the red coral is a talisman for protection of the wearer from harm. Coral has long been thought of as a protective amulet. Going back to ancient times, it was thought to be the solidified tendrils of the blood from the severed head of Medusa, and to have the properties of protection for the wearer, particularly if the wearer is a child. Such interesting lore attends these old pieces, and the traditions cross over into modern times. So, with this combination, one can surmise that this fine jewelry piece would have been a symbolic wish for the eternal protection of the wearer, perhaps? A charming idea for a lovely baby gift (bracelet), or as a ring to someone you cherish and would, likewise, wish to guard throughout eternity, no? Also think of it as a lovely doll bracelet, by the way.
The red coral beads are nearly 5mm in diameter and are real coral and hand carved. You can see in our huge oversized photos, there are natural flaws here or there, but none are broken, cracked. The coiled wire upon which they're strung approximately 7" long when pulled straight, but it's a tight coil and won't lie flat nor should you think of it as a bracelet for an adult hand. Pretty dark salmon red or tomato red in color.
