We've had a few boxes made like this, though not a scent caddy, over the years. This one is a lovely old thing. All original so you can get a real sense of the quality and beauty, and trill it once offered. The interior is fitted in silk velvet, and has sleeves for 4 perfume flasks, but only the one remains today. The old sets are fragile and often have lost some or all of their perfume flasks, bottles so it's nice to see at least the one in place. The box, itself, is superb. Cutaway and engraved thick gauge brass alloy that keeps its golden look, touched for design with areas that have silver added. That has lost some of its impact, but you can still see it. And the beautiful early 1800s hand painted Sevres soft paste proclaim plaque is just fabulous, undamaged and brilliantly preserved. Raised gold enamel work and hand painted bouquet of flowers makes such a pretty cartouche. The working lock retains the original working key, too. And that's truly rare. A fine old treasure. We have another similarly made larger box available, sold separately, so ask us if you're having trouble finding it and you want a tabletop collection.
Very good condition, missing 3 of the original Gold enameled perfume flacon/flasks, but that's its only flaw to note. The original interior in silk velvet remains - shows some age. The outer casket is splendid, and so is that fabulous Sevres soft paste plaque. No damage there! Working lock, original key. The box is 4.5" x 3.25" oblong, and is 3.5" tall. You'll note that the one perfume vial has perfume residue still inside so we didn't want to try to dislodge the stopper. heavenly smell - you can use the box as a potpourri if you want without adding a thing. Not the least overpowering, though - just very light, subtle, elegant. And c.1810-40
