Found in Paris, this small 1800s to earliest 1900s hand made silver filagree box was probably someone's Grand Tour souvenir of a visit to St. Petersburg in a simpler pre-war time. These little boxes and silver filagree items are all hand made, soldered and formed by artisans of the era. Some were in sterling silver, and I rather think this one is, but we haven't got acid to test so I will also allow the possibility that it's silver plated and we'll price it as such.
Very good to excellent, no breaks in the filagree that I can see, but please look over our enlarged photos for your own review. I can't find a hallmark, which I would anticipate should be on the flat lip of bottom and top of box when opened. Hinge is working nicely and there is not clasp so it just rests closed (never was a clasp). The box is 2.75" square and with a bombe form, domed top, it rises to 2.25" when closed.
Our photos are large and clear. We do expect our customers to review them all, evaluate the item based on both our description and our images. Thanks for all the compliments - we love what we do! Antiques & Uncommon Treasure - all the best, all the time!
