Exquisite antique PUIFORCAT hallmarked French sterling silver 36pc table knife set in the elegant Louis XVI style "Pompadour" seashell, bow & ribbon pattern, a 3pc setting for twelve with three additional meat carving/serving pieces AND in the original fitted storage and/or presentation box! PRISTINE! One of three fantastic antique Puiforcat sterling silver knife sets that we're adding this week, each with a different pattern and all gorgeous & rare. This set with a pattern described as Louis XVI in our reference guide, the Puiforcat pattern name listed as Pompadour. Gorgeous, don't you think, and they simply don't come any more pristine that this set! The PUIFORCAT name, as I'm sure I need not say, has a long and lauded history in Paris. Maker to royalty, known for only the finest of the fine. Now owned by Hermes, Puiforcat continues to offer luxurious silver to this day. A magnificent example here! The handles (and sterling blades of the dessert sized pieces) all bear the French Minerve or Minerva hallmark, the tiny number "1" within those marks means they're in .950 silver (95% pure and higher than the .925 standard for "sterling" silver). Tiny silversmith marks also for Puiforcat, Emile (EP). Don't miss them and be sure to browse some while you're with us, we have a huge selection of antique French & European sterling silver treasures that are sure to tempt. Thanks!
Excellent condition. Some very faint surface scuffs to the sterling silver handles but no dents, no damage or repairs to note. A 39pc set with the serving pieces included, very rare. All of the blades are original, in stainless steel and all marked "Paris". The meat serving fork has pre-stainless tines so you do see some age tarnish and/or corrosion there. The gigot appears to have a silver plated clamp end, hallmarks visible. As noted, the box is original and in great shape, too. No monograms on the knives, etc. but the top of the box has a gold embossed "H.D.F.". See pictures for all weights and measurements.
