Gorgeous antique American 'brilliant' cut crystal & sterling silver oversized 4 1/4" tall inkwell, beautiful sparkling facet cut base & ornate interlaced monogram on the lid: Galt & Bro., Washington D.C. silversmiths! There for the longest time, it seemed like we simply could not find any of these great old oversized inkwells but have come across a couple in the last few months and had the pleasure to offer them here. Overly thick and heavy crystal with a faceted wheel cut base, bubbly style reservoir and sterling silver cap & collar. Often referred to as paper weight inkwells, these heavy treasures are fabulous decorative accents and getting harder and harder to find at a reasonable price. This one in American 'brilliant cut crystal', the exterior back of the sterling top is marked Galt & Bro. Sterling 13681 3 1/2". The firm was established in 1802 by James Galt in Washington D.C., this mark dates the piece to around 1892 though you wouldn't guess it from the condition. A treasure, don't miss it!
Very good condition. One smallish chip to the rear right corner of the base. There is also a tiny 'spot' nip to the left side. The crystal body has a very faint yellowish hue, not perfectly crystal clear but original. See pictures for all measurements.
