Fine antique French Napoleon III to Belle Epoque era 8" double inkwell or inkstand, a standish or basket style gilt bronze ormolu 'rope' wire framework with hand painted porcelain ink pots and center dish! A lovely piece! Measuring a full 8" in width and standing 6" tall, it also has a nice size and is definitely a visually appealing decorative accent. Both inkwells and the center accoutrement or pen dish are porcelain, all hand painted with a floral motif, the center dish including a butterfly. Fabulous condition, too, with both inkwell lids intact (attached to the wire framework with tiny brass chains) and no chipping that I can see! A delightful piece, a fabulous decorative accent!
Very good to excellent condition. As noted above, there are no cracks or repairs to either inkwell or the center plate/dish (one inkwell does have a small chip to the edge of the base). A bit of paint wear possible, some visible around the rim of the dish, but no real losses and the flowers, etc. are thickly painted giving them tangible depth. There is crazing to the clear coat on the porcelain wells, most visible on the inside and base. See pictures for all measurements.
