We're pleased to offer this superb hand carved mother of pearl plaque showing a Romantic country scene reminiscent of the French Romantic era, genre. The brooch is mooted in rolled gold with cut steel framework, and we think it is British in origin. A typical Victorian hinged pin and c-clamp closure remains intact thought it would appear there is an old re-solder to the c-clamp (see images). Lovely in the hand or worn, it's a charming carving.

Very good to excellent condition for age and type, there are no chips or flaws to the mother of pearl plaque. This very hard material is difficult to carve, often flakes or chips easily and so represents a lovely artisan's work of art. Cut steel border is entirely intact. The hinged pin back remains and the c-clamp looks to have been re-mounted at some point or was roughly mounted to begin with (see images). Beautiful item!
