Absolutely gorgeous & rare antique French Charles X to Napoleon III era 16" jardiniere or planter box, a beautiful piece with serpentine shape, ornate sinuous brass & natural shell inlay on all sides and scrolling gilt ormolu feet & accents! Isn't this one fabulous! Nice and large at an impressive 16" wide, beautiful red mottled shell covering the undulating side panels and a stunning array of scrolling brass leaves & tendrils! There are even urn shaped flower baskets within the inlay, formed by the intermingling of the shell & brass at the center of each of the two longer side panels. Solid gilt ormolu feet formed by foliate scrolls and tendrils, ormolu side handles and a reticulated upper rim. Gorgeous!
Good-very good condition. There is some loss of the brass inlay on the handled sides, some brass inlay has small tacks holding it down but, as you can see in the images, both of the longer face or side panels are in truly remarkable condition. Some nips to the upper and lower edges of the wood and/or shell. It would originally have had an inner tin liner, missing now. See pictures for measurements.
