Another wonderful little Grand Tour souvenir, this one mid-1800s and from the famed 'Valley of Kings', the Loire Valley in France, and the location of the most incredible treasure trove of ancient chateau. If you have not yet visited that region of France, you must! Chambord Castle, alone, is worth the trip. But I digress. This is a well-used little stamp box, or small jewelry casket with a parquetry veneer of mother of pearl and abalone shell. A bit nipped here or there, as our images show, all the panels are in place, and the incised and 'lac' (bug juice, literally, from the lac beetle) enhanced writing noting it's origin. Push-button closure holding tight, as are the hinges. A fine little box for accent, to group with other antique boxes, or just to serve as a souvenir for your own trip to the Loire. Good condition for age, with signs of use as shown in images.
