Elegant antique French Belle Epoque era PAIR of PUIFORCAT hallmarked sterling silver full sized chocolate, coffee or tea cup & saucers, a 4pc set with ornate Louis XV or Rococo style raised rocaille decoration, wonderful condition with 18k gold 'vermeil' cup interiors, interlaced "LD" or "DL" monograms and kept in the original fitted storage and/or presentation boxes! A cup & saucer PAIR here, meaning there are two cups, two saucers and two boxes in this set. perfect for an intimate evening tea or coffee in the morning to get your day started :). Both beautifully ornate, Louis XV or rococo style bands encircling each. Relatively large and as stunning as can be! All pieces bear the French Minerve or Minerva hallmark, the tiny number "1" within those marks means they're in at least .950 silver (95% pure and higher than the .925 standard for "sterling" silver). The silversmith marks are for Eugene Castel, Paris circa 1903-1910. Embossed labels on the inside silk or satin lids of the boxes read "Hervieu, Caen". A lovely service for two, don't miss them! Rare to find the larger oversized pieces, especially a service for two AND with original boxes.
Very good condition. One or two very faint dimples to one cup and some slight surface scuffing due to age and light use. The boxes are in fine shape with some edge roughening, some discoloration spots here and there but overall well kept (one with fabric splits in the silk/satin hinge cover area). Each cup holds right about twelve fluid ounces (with roughly a 1/4" space between the contents and rim of the cup). All four pieces have a total weight of 395 grams or 12.7 troy ounces. See pictures for individual weights and measurements.
