One has to think of this as a petit furniture item, and it might well be one you'll want for your antique doll house, based on its size. I'm unsure if it's an ebeniste's apprentice one of a kind piece or not, but I've never seen one similarly crafted nor of its size, so I suspect it might well have been. It is 14" tallest. Look on photos for all measurements, including the interior space. This is from the Charles X era to perhaps very early Napoleon III, the fluted carving and barley-twist carved pillars, ebonized wood and elegant boulle work was typical of that time period, so c.1830-50s, I'd say. The apprentice would be charged with designing and creating a piece of miniature furniture to show the level of expertise he had acquired at stages in his long apprenticeship to a Master cabinet maker, and this one would evidence exceptional skill - fitting of being named to full ebeniste stature. It's inlaid with cuttings of brass in the manner of Charles Boulle of an earlier century, and beautifully preserved there. Such an elegant and unique piece!

Very good to excellent condition for age and type. I will say, it has one very small section of the ruffle-carved trim missing to back of the bottom left pillar as it faces you (you have to go looking for it). It also has openings up on top that indicate it once had small turned wood finials at tops of those barley-twist pillars, as well. Those are missing. It hurts the appeal none at all. When I bought this one in France, it had an old red interior liner that was not original and not the least appealing, though red would likely have been more original in color. I took the initiative for my own use to put in a padded off-white silk panel as backing inside, which is how it presents in our images and how it will arrive. It is slightly padded in 100% cotton batt, so you can attach finback brooches, use pins as hanging 'nails', thus making it a very easy to mount display inside. The door does not have a lock mechanism, as shown. You will LOVE this one as I have! The door fits smoothly, the glass is undamaged, and the little knob is the original lathe-turned one, as well. So gorgeous, so special - this one!

Our photos are large and clear. We do expect our customers to review them all, evaluate the item based on both our description and our images. Thanks for all the compliments - we love what we do! Antiques & Uncommon Treasure - all the best, all the time.
