Absolutely gorgeous & rare antique 1912 hallmarked English brilliant cut crystal & sterling silver 3.5” square single inkwell with exquisite faceted wheel cut body that shimmers like diamonds, cut pen tray or holder grooves in the top and elegant sterling silver cap with folding pocket watch holder or display! Isn’t this one beautiful! We have definitely had the pleasure in the past weeks to offer a few of these great old sterling & cut crystal inkwells but this one the first in years with the pocket watch holder/display lid and hands down the best! This size is often referred to as "paper weight" inkwells, these heavy treasures are fabulous decorative accents and getting harder and harder to find at a reasonable price. This one especially fine with the expansive, extensively cut crystal body, pen or quill holder grooves cut into the top and simply a stunner visually with the pocket watch display up top. The sterling collar & hinging mechanism all bear English hallmarks for the silversmith John Grinnell & Sons of Birmingham and the date mark is for 1912 so just a few years past its 100th birthday. From the "brilliant cut crystal" era a true pleasure for us to offer. A treasure, don't miss it AND, be sure to browse our other beautiful inkwells & desk top items while you're with us. Thanks!
Very good to excellent condition. There is a small nip to the front left top corner and some scuffing to the base but no larger chips or cracks to note. No damage to the sterling top that I can see though it may be missing an inner glass ink pot. The pocket watch shown is included but really a throw away if you wish, it's just a vintage USSR piece but does run. See pictures for all measurements.
