Perfect for your antique doll house setting, or to add to your military or portrait miniature collection, this fine original water color on card/heavy paper remains in the original frame and is just spectacular. We do not know who this gentleman is but he is very well decorated with honors, medals and epaulettes befitting the splendor of his attitude. I'm just back from Paris and added in a tour through the Legion of Honor Museum now open next to the Musee' D'Orsay. What a thrill! I am not an expert at all in antique European medals but to say they seem to be endless in making them. For someone who can appreciate this only for its artistic beauty, I'd love it if some military collection expert would email us with more about the medals, etc., and perhaps we can get an idea of who this portrait depicts from that. NOTE: Someone did email us to say this is a Prussian uniformed officer, and that the primary large medal is the Prussian Iron Cross. I have verified that information and so we're annotating the listing text to show what we know. If you know more, recognize more medals or insignia, please email us. Thank you!
Very good condition for age and type. There is a cover glass (original) and there is no damage to the original water color portrait. The old frame shows its age, as you can see. The red mat is powerful in setting off the portrait. Outer frame is brass, as is the inner border of the card mat. Easel stand that might have originally been on back side is not in place anymore, but a hanging loop is there. Fabulous! The outer measurement is a quite large 6.75" x 5.5" oval and it is 3/8" in depth. Photos show it well, along with condition and frame's condition. The painting is signed by the artist, and we have no further information on that artist.
