While these are always wonderful hung in a kitchen and displaying your wooden spoons or even antique sterling silver serving spoon collection, this was originally a pipe or cigar rack. The piece is heavy old forest growth oak and is beautifully preserved. We'd say late 1800s to perhaps as late as 1910. Note the rolled and tied tobacco on each side, old cheroots I think, aren't they? Which makes it all the more interesting if you decide to stock it with wrapped cigars. And of course you can see the 4 pipes as well. And the Chimera figure/bust at the base which is just all the more fun. I kind of expect the gentleman bust is perhaps a portrait.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type, over 21.5" long, it's a very impressive caved piece. Photos show it well, there is a chip to the far left carved fitting for a pipe stem (see pics). Full measurements are noted on our photos, but it is 21.5" long, 8.5" high and carved in a deep bas relief and full bust, so 3.5" in depth.
Our photos are large and clear. We do expect our customers to review them all, evaluate the item based on both our description and our images. Thanks for all the compliments - we love what we do! Antiques & Uncommon Treasure - all the best, all the time!
