Remarkable massive antique late 1700s to early 1800s Napoleonic or Victorian era hand carved walnut 54" furniture or architectural cornice, an ornate "fronton" with scrolling foliage though out and armorial style figural center medallion! Taken from the top of larger carved pieces of furniture, these old 'salvaged' pieces were generally the more ornate parts of the pieces and make wonderful decorative accents as they are. Or, turn them into part of your custom cabinetry, fireplace mantel, bar or wouldn't this one look great mounted in some way into a headboard. Carved from what looks like solid old growth European oak and the size is nearly as impressive as the carving. The current pictures really don't do it justice so I'll get some new ones taken and add asap, a real treasure. Fabulous visual appeal no matter how you end up using or displaying it.
Very good condition. There are a few small chips along the top edge but, as you can see, the piece is in overall fabulous shape. The most notable flaws are that the two narrow ends of the piece have been been re-glued due to some age/drying splitting. The split is slightly visible on the right side and some glue visible to the left side. There are also two small holes in the expansive panel, about 2.5" from the edge of the inner circular medallion and surely from mounting with screws. Huge & heavy! See pictures for all measurements.
