A fabulous mid-1800s oil lamp, magnificently cut crystal we're certain is Baccarat though it is not a signed pied. The diamond-cut pattern is one we see in c.1830-60s Baccarat catalogues, however, and this one matches the pattern. The lamp can be functional with only the addition of a wick and some whale oil (or lamp oil). We've cleaned the old brass fitting and we believe the tall chimney is a later replacement but can't be certain. It might well be original. There are no maker markings on the slender elegant chimney, either.
Very good to excellent condition throughout. I don't find any chips nor cracks, no hairlines. I haven't even found a nip to the point of the cut crystal, but it's so complicated, I hope I haven't missed a tiny one. Felt it all over with my fingertips because sometimes you'll feel one you don't really notice in view, but I didn't find any. There are some slight rubs to the bottom from use, of course, but that story be expected. Very nicely preserved in the working mechanism, as well. Just need to add a wick (craft-store item) and safe burning lamp oil and it'll be fabulous in office or bedroom or just on display in your lighted vitrine. The crystal is so beautiful in light. I think we have to have our photographer take a class in photographing crystal and glass to higher advantage. It is far more beautiful than our photos show it. Measurements are noted on the photos.
Our photos are large and clear. We do expect our customers to review them all, evaluate the item based on both our description and our images. Thanks for all the compliments - we love what we do! Antiques & Uncommon Treasure - all the best, all the time.
