I love the old French Empire and 2nd Empire frames with ormolu against bare wood best of all, and it is those I use for my own family photos at home. This one is just in from Paris along with a couple others I'll be listing (sold separately) and it's just spectacular. The velvet-covered inner mat is dotted with pressed ormolu bees, the symbol of Napoleon, of course. The dore bronze upper crest is elaborate and delicately crafted and matches the appliqués you see on the wooden frame's outer perimeter. The inner brass round aperture wills how a 3.75" diameter photo or miniature painting and the cover glass is fully intact therein. You can see that the mounting tabs are also all still there. Ready for you to install your favorite photos (or to me do so and keep it). Lyre and acanthus and other elegant French Empire themed motifs on this richly designed and well preserved old frame. We are uncertain if it's 1st or 2nd Empire, so dates from c.1810-1870, latest. VERY nicely kept.
Very good to excellent condition throughout. From intact deep green (almost black) silk velvet mat festooned with Napoleon's bees, to the right grained old wood mounted with dore bronze appliqués, to the crest up top, this one is superb. The wood square is 7.5" and so you'd add another 1.75" to height if you're adding in the crest at top. The aperture for your photo, which does have the old undamaged cover glass in place, will show a 3.75" round image beautifully. The back side is in fine condition, as well, with the self-easel intact. Superb frame!
