The Cathedral and Metropolitical Church of Saint Peter in York, commonly known as York Minster, is the cathedral of York, England, and is one of the largest of its kind in Northern Europe. So fitting, then, that is is our subject in the back-painted glass painting that centers this souvenir tazza. The eglomise center is 3.25" in diameter, and that exquisite large figural cast tazza is 11.5" in diameter not counting the extended handles - fully 15" widest, and raised to a height of 3.25". Fabulous souvenir item from the Victorian era, and serves today as not only your souvenir of your own Grand Tour. The cast neo-Renaissance formed tazza features Chimera (horses with serpent bodies or mermaid tail, and many acanthus-like rocaille worked into the form. Fabulous as a table center, or to anchor your collection of mid-1800s Grand Tour eglomise souvenirs. The cathedral is backed by mother of pearl so the image shimmers and seems lighted from within - fine quality. And creating a lovely Victorian scene, there are parishioners and even a gent on horse there to give scale.
Very good to excellent. The tazza is marvelous. Much larger than most of these old souvenir ones, and while there's a bit of uncleaned brass polish on that underside and some in recesses, there is only one flaw to note, stable as it is - you see that split in the metal outer rim within the space of one handle? We've shown it in enlargement for your review. It's not loose, and doesn't move, but is there. Otherwise, entirely splendid. Use it to collect your mail, or center table to present fruit.
