The first time I saw this little item in use (one like it) was at Empress Catherine's table in the Catherine Palace, St. Petersburg. I'll add a photo I clicked so you can see how it's set up with these little decanters at each place setting.
An exquisite and pristine French crystal 19th century "carafon". A carafon is the small place setting decanter from which a guest can refill his or her own water glass or wine goblet (you can use it either way). I love it when I'm in Paris and the waiter brings my carafon with my goblet. I hate waiting for service to fill my water goblet, and this is the finest way to offer your guests (or yourself) that same little convenience. Used primarily for water, it might serve well as a wine decanter to be shared between a couple to refill their goblets, as well. A final use, for liqueur service, but of course you'll have an entire other set for that. ; ) Come and shop with us and set the most glorious table! We can help you put together the very finest, set it with our antique French sterling silver flatware, too - all available separately.
Very good to excellent condition, not a tiny nip nor chip nor crack to ruin the abject joy of owning this superb hand made crystal decanter. One tiny surface scratch (view images) on front above gold cartouche. Measurements are noted on our photos.
Our photos are large and clear. We do expect our customers to review them all, evaluate the item based on both our description and our images. Thanks for all the compliments - we love what we do! Antiques & Uncommon Treasure - all the best, all the time!
