Antique French .800/1000 (nearly sterling) silver with a layer of 18k gold on top, "vermeil" sewing set in the old original 19th century wooden etui, case, box. The gold has been largely worn or polished away from the thimble in this set, but it is the old original one and all that's missing in this set is the ribbon-threading bodkin (large needle). An opulent Royal purple silk and silk velvet interior that is in pristine condition, and the exterior is done in black with a bright brass cartouche, in the style popular in the Napoleon III era (c.1850-70). This set would be to the earlier part of that period, likely c.1850.
Very good to excellent for age and type. As noted, there would have been one more small tool: a ribbon threading needle or "bodkin", as they are called. That one item is missing. Some of the gold layer missing on the thimble, so it shows a bit between gold and silver as you can see. Still, a lovely old set and scissors are very sharp, undamaged and ready to be used. This is a set any seamstress will covet, love, use. The old wooden case is so charming. A few dings to the case or etui, but not much to notice at all. No chips or cracks and hinge and clasp both are working perfectly well. Nice to display or to use.
