The crystal pattern in the superb Baccarat (signed) oval basket box is known as ‘bamboo’ and is represented by elongated fluting on the form-blown crystal base, which form also leaves us the raised cast signature “Baccarat”. We’ve had numerous pieces from this pattern, but none as pleasing as this covered basket-like box. Large at 7.5” x 5” and 3” tall (not counting handles, by the way, on that width), it has a hinged engraved deep beveled lid insert, too, so all the more gorgeous. Will capture the light no matter where you choose to display it. The more bronze and brass framework is entirely intact. Raised cabriole legs elevate it as does the form and style. A Baccarat work of art, this one.
Very good to excellent for age and type. The box dates c.1880-1910. We have 2 matching oval bowls about to list, in case you wish to have 3 pieces that match and can be used at dinner service. This would be wonderful for table service. No breaks in the ormolu, no breaks in the wheel engraved top nor in the old crystal bowl that forms the base of the box. Very fine!
