Elegant antique to vintage French hallmarked sterling silver & intaglio etched or engraved glass bonbon, condiment or even caviar serving dish, Empire style SWANS & garland and ball footed base! Lovely! Of course, the uses for this one are only limited by your imagination but just picture a smaller glass dish filled with fine caviar floating on ice chips in this one...great yes? The base has a French Empire style band encircling it, floral garland with winged swans and simply gorgeous. The French Minerve or Minerva hallmark is there, the tiny number "1" within the mark means it's in .950 silver (95% pure and higher than the .925 standard for "sterling" silver). The silversmith marks are for Charles Forgelot, Paris circa 1901-1928. The glass insert is original with wheel etched decoration including matching foliate garland. Remnants of vermeil or 18k gold finish on the exterior of the base, complete on the interior so the piece may originally have been entirely vermeil. A gorgeous piece nonetheless and sure to impress.
Very good-excellent condition. Wear/loss to the exterior vermeil on the base but no damage or repairs. No chips, cracks or damage to the glass either. See pictures for measurements.
