FABulous pair of exceptionally fine 29" long hand carved Black Forest plaques, "Fruits of the Hunt" theme with a total of 6 game birds on stringers of oak branches with acorns. What could possibly be more wonderful as accent for your Country French home (or mine, which is where these are currently hanging on display). The 19th century pair has the added accent of a gold painted trim board outlining them, which elevates the old carvings a bit and makes them show even more beautifully. And the acorns and oak leaves are always a favorite. Whether cabin or lodge decor, or even English Manor, or Modern for this set. You'll love them.
Very good to excellent condition, the Swiss-German carved pair show 6 excellent anatomical studies of birds. A sculptor in the finest Animalier movement genre, late 1800s. And so well preserved, I don't see a single chip or crack or loss in any of the birds, or any of the other carving, either. The outer framework is carved separately from the plaques they frame, and contain the carvings elegantly. Perhaps a light surface rub here or there, and someone has drilled a hole top and bottom for hanging, though they hang with the majority of birds head-down, evidenced by the carved knot ribbon tops on each. A tiny fill and some Old English, and they'll be just pristine for your home (or in mine).
