Do you love looking at the furnishings when you watch "Downton Abbey"? I do! The Heritage interiors that go no newer than Edwardian - so elegant! Before I 'grew up' to be an antique dealer, the antique I wanted most of all was a beautiful set of antique tortoise shell and sterling silver vanity jars and mirrors, brushes, etc., for my dresser top. I remember looking at sets, wondering if I'd ever be able to afford something that beautiful. These pieces still thrill me, no matter how many we've bought or sold over the years. The tremendous beauty of mottled cognac and chocolate colors against the beautiful old sterling silver seems timeless, and at once, opulently antique, fitting to the time it was made in, yet timeless. Here is one such set, complete with all the brushes, the comb, the hand mirror. Six pieces in all. The pieces are linked by the design and silver monogram inset into the old shell: "EAD"and by the excellent condition in which they come forth. The brushes have natural boar bristles and are in remarkably good condition. Thoroughly sanitized, ready for use. There are 2 matching hair brushes and 2 matching clothing brushes, one hand mirror and one comb. Hallmarks on all of the sterling silver, which is English. The maker's mark is "S-star-B".
Very good to excellent condition throughout, use and age considered. The set has been thoroughly sanitized and is fit and ready to use. The brush bristles are boar, complete, clean. The comb is missing no tines. The mirror is in excellent usable state, also, is heavy thick and beveled glass - with only the very slightest wipe of haze on that mirrored glass. Large and substantial pieces, this is a full compliment and will fit out your dressing room (or movie set - yes, we do also supply those). No chips or cracks or hairlines to the faux tortoise shell, either, and a nice satin finish that needs nothing but a touch of oil now and then to keep it rich-looking. No lifts to the silver inlays and if any dents are to be found in the sterling silver, I didn't see them. But look our images over carefully. I get distracted by how beautiful the set is.
