A superb old 2nd Empire frame in dore bronze, wreath top! The old original moire silk mat with sphynx & wreath appliques offer 2" apertures for your twins (or ours) or your his and hers wedding photos - whatever. This frame is mid 1800s, Napoleon III's Empire Revival period, and is as brilliantly gold as in its origin, which is the mark of dore bronze castings. Easel stand and the old original backing remain, beautifully preserved, as does the beautiful pale green moire silk mat. The aperture is 2" round, as noted, and awaits your favorite photo.
Very good to excellent, without any flaws to note other than a very slight fading to the silk at about the 9 o'clock position, visible in our photos. Of course, the more original an antique frame remains, the more of its value it keeps, too, so the fading only adds to its inherent antique charm, some would say. This frame would have held a portrait miniature at one time, certainly, but the painting is no longer within. A beauty, isn't it. Watch for a near-match double aperture French frame we'll be listing which will look fabulous along with this one (sold separately).
