Isn't this one just fabulous! A very early 1800s (Georgian era mosaic) micromosaic in fine quality and condition, floral basket against blue (rare), and set into a most magical old Victorian hair art memorial or memento brooch that swivels (center panel) from micromosaic to a compartmented locket of a back side into which the Victorian aesthetic would have found a plaited locket of human hair under glass. Alas, at listing time the glass is not there, though the small oval mounting guard remains. It's possible Rick may be able to cut an oval of glass that will work in this old beauty, but we're not promising it, and not planning on it in our price which does take this flaw into consideration. Yes, it would have been a magnificent brooch in its day. Likely rolled gold or 'pinchbeck', a mimic of finer 14 or 15K gold, this brooch is a superb old Victorian jewelry item of high appeal. Wear it as it is, or have the glass restored (if we can't) and install your own child's first haircut locks in back as your own family's instant heirloom. Magnificent old Italian Grand Tour micromosaic is perfectly preserved as you see it, in its sky blue surround, which has a couple of very faint hairlines we had to scan to capture for your review. Still, RARE and fine!
Good to very good condition, with a nod to that missing glass and a couple of almost invisible to the eye hairlines we've talked about. Easily restored to its former glory, since the swivel brooch and micromosaic are both in fine condition. Add the little oval glass and a lock of hair in back and it's perfect!
